After much deliberation of what I should use for a show reel I have decided to combine two of my passions into one project. The first passion should be obvious (I mean you are on a blog regarding cinematic arts), but the second is my love for fighting games, specifically Street Fighter.
The new Mortal Kombat (2021) trailer really amazed me with it's effects and visuals I figured it would be a great place to start if I could create my own battle effects like characters special moves, super moves, charging up their power, environmental ambience and destruction.
So I have decided to create my 2-3 minute show reel for class by recreating some of Ryu's famous special moves like the Hadouken or Shoryuken.

I will go and video capture these special moves from their respective games using my PC and my PlayStation 4 console, to see what the flow of the move is like on start up, active and recovery frames of the move being used. This frame by frame comparison will help me make a more realistic effect.
I will also try to consume various Street Fighter media such as films, anime and games to help paint a picture of how to create Ryu's moves for a live action film setting.
